The Road to Creve Coeur Village – 1950s:

The road leading to the village from the north emphasizes on green sugar cane fields in the foreground and a spendide view of the mountain range in the background. And this single road leading to the village provide a feeling of tunneling. By interpretation, the name ‘Creve Coeur’ (french) means ‘Broken Heart’, but this naming might be erroneous or of a different meaning if you visit the village.

It is  the most iconic mountain in Mauritius and the second highest after Piton de la Petite Riviere Noire. It is named after Pieter Both who was the first Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies before dying in a shipwreck on his way home. Its majestic beauty is often depicted on Mauritius postcards. The Pieter Both mountain attracts thousands of nature lovers, both for hiking adventures and its breath taking views.

It is a reservoir(s) and is located in Pamplemousses, Mauritius. The estimate terrain elevation above seal level is 384 metres.Surrounded by nature preserved hillsides, La Nicolière has numerous viewpoints and has become a nature spot where mostly locals like to have a nice afternoon walk to breathe in some fresh air and enjoy the peacefulness of the environment.

This is undoubtedly one of the most visited attractions in Mauritius. Created over 300 years ago by the famous French botanist Pierre Poivre, the garden is the oldest in the Southern Hemisphere and boasts a plethora of indigenous plants. See if you can spot Pierre Poivre’s statue in the gardens. Count yourself extremely fortunate if you happen to see the Talipot Palm, which blooms once every 30 to 80 years! There are also giant tortoises, Java Deer, and the spectacular water lilies.
