Discover the wonders of the tropical Northern part of Mauritius with its charming aspects, laden with history; cultural and scenic views.
 
The day starts at 08.30 a.m. and ends at 04.00 p.m.
 
Starting with a visit of the busy city of Port Louis after which you will stop at the Kaylasson Multicolored Tamil Temple.


We will then take you to one of the famous attraction of the island,  The Pamplemousses Botanical Garden, known worlwide for its large collection of indigenous and exotic plants, including the giant Victoria Amazonica water lilies and Talipot palm trees.
 
A local traditional lunch will be served at Tante Athalie Table D'Hote(Optional Lunch) , situated in the heart of a 19th century family property in an open-sided building, reminiscent of a garage with a collection of vintage cars, with its tin roof and artifacts from a previous era.
 
After the lunch drive to the Cap Malheureux village via Grand Bay. You will have  photostop at the very well known village chapel with its red roof, offering a magnificent view on the Gunner's Quoin and other islands in the surrondings.

The City of Port-Louis 'Details'
  • Port Louis, the cosmopolitan capital city of Mauritius was founded in 1735 by the French governor and pioneer Bertrand-François Mahé de La Bourdonnais. Located on the Northwest Coast, Port Louis is the administrative and business capital of the island.
  • Photostop at 'La Citadelle, the Citadel of Port Louis (Fort Adelaide) is a fort that was built between 1834 and 1840 to guard the city against riots during the abolition of slavery. Today local and international concerts and artistic shows are performed there and it is definitely worth a visit for the stunning views from this vantage point.
  • Visit of Port-Louis Central Market, the largest market, where you can find fresh food items, local dishes, and various handcrafted goods that are useful to locals and serve as souvenirs for tourists.

A wonderfully ornate complex with colorful domes and carved gods on different tiers. . The temple complex was built in the shape of a human body, with the main parts of the complex representing the heart and the brain.

The Pamplemousses Botanical Garden, formally known as Sir Seewoosagur Botanic Garden, is one of the most visited attractions in Mauritius. The garden is located in the proximity of Port-Louis in the district of Pamplemousse.

The botanical garden stretches over endless acres of land and it may take you more than a week to cover the whole garden. It is populated with more than 650 varieties of plants among which are the famous Baobabs, the Palmier Bouteille, the ineluctable Giant Water Lilies, dozens of medicinal plants, a large spice garden and many more. One of the main attractions of the botanical garden is the 85 different varieties of palm trees brought from different corners of the world. Other indigenous species of plants are also exhibited here.

Tante Athalie prepares memorable Creole cuisine in an idyllic setting. The restaurant offers lunch, served Monday through Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.

Starter:

 

  • Prawn River scented with Indian spices

  • Crispy brown toast and flacks of cucumber and mint

 

Main course:

 

  • Thin slices of roasted chicken supreme marinated with Tandoori spices

  • Pickled eggplant, flacks of fresh cucumber with mint leaves, preserved lemon a creamy coconut and cumin rice.


Dessert:

 

  • Crispy papaya and almond, enhanced with combava served with sherbet and Tea or Coffee.

The northern edge of Mauritius has stunning views out to the islands off the coast, most obviously the dramatic headland of Gunner's coin. Cap Malheureux is a place of great historical importance for Mauritius: it was here that the British invasion force finally defeated the French in 1810 and took over the island.
