By following the trail of the Sugar Adventure with over 250 years of history, you can trace the history of the whole country. The tour of the old sugar mill, which has been transformed into a modern museum, lasts about 1h30 hours, at the end of tour, delightful sugar and rum tastings await the visitor. You will then visit the enormous factory, its decade-old machines decked with a thousand lights.
Port Louis, the cosmopolitan capital city of Mauritius was founded in 1735 by the French governor and pioneer Bertrand-François Mahé de La Bourdonnais. Located on the Northwest Coast,Port Louis is the administrative and business capital of the island. Buzzing with activity during the day, the city is full of cultural and historical treasures that should not be missed.
The Aapravasi Ghat historical site is an important symbol of Mauritian identity since the ancestors of more than 70% of today’s Mauritian population arrived on the island through this immigration depot. Before the construction of the Aapravasi Ghat in Trou Fanfaron in Port Louis, several buildings were used as depots in Port Louis to receive indentured labourers. The Aapravasi Ghat was constructed in 1849 to improve the management of indentured immigration.
The Eureka house was built in 1830 by a prosperous Mauritian family. Nowadays, being one of the few colonial houses in good state left in Mauritius, the house is a museum. Villa Eureka is also being called the house of the 109 doors. Inside you can have a glimpse of the nineteenth century by looking at the pictures on the wall and the well maintained furniture.

All the products from the Mauritius Glass Gallery are made from recycled glass. The first thing you see when you get in is the hands museum, the ‘hands’ are organized by categories: writers, sportsperson and tv personalities. After the museum, there is a short corridor with distorting mirrors. You will have a little bit of fun there and spent some time seeing ourselves short, tall, fat and distorted in other ways.
As you enter the next room, the first thing you notice is the very high temperature. Here you get to the heart of the glass making workshop and see them handling and blowing glass. You can get to see artisans, it is quite fascinating to watch and the transformation from a red runny blob to transparent hard glass in such a quick time, its an amazing experience! Right next to the working area there is a little display area with information about the history of glass and various organizations connected to the Glass Gallery. After the visit you can then spend a few minutes in the shop which is quite worthwhile too.
